Mutants Seeking a Way Out

Mutants Seeking a Way Out

A concert of musically unclassifiable tones and rhythms, a lyrical explosion into unknown territories and much more

“Greetings, hi, hi, hi
so you came in at the end
that’s great, great to see you
you’re – I wasn’t expecting you
you look good, man.
and what else, all good?”

The Prague duo of two classmates from KALD DAMU consists of instrumentalist Jiří Konvalinka and lyricist and rapper Jan Vejražka. Musically they balance between alternative hip-hop and experimental anything. The name of the band came about prosaically: Jiří Konvalinka saw a sign on the railing at the admissions process at the studios of the Academy of Art Industry in Prague that read “Mutants Seeking a Way Out.” Since 2010 they have been performing and releasing albums. Their latest album, titled “When You Have Friends, You Don’t Need Enemies,” perfectly demonstrates the wit, insight and irony that are in the lyrics, mixing with both serious and emotional themes.
