A vision of a world where silence can be the loudest scream
A production by Polish students inspired by the play by Witold Gombrowicz brings a chilling grotesque about a world full of masks and pretence. At the royal court, everyone plays their role through a puppet. A rehearsed image speaks, laughs, and flirts on their behalf. Only Iwona remains silent, without a puppet, without a mask—vulnerable in her authenticity. Her presence disrupts the order because she refuses to conform to expectations, revealing the true faces of those hiding behind illusions. Her gaze pierces beneath the surface, provoking fear and hatred. Silence becomes a mirror in which everyone must face themselves.
The Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow, Wrocław Faculty, offers students comprehensive training in acting and directing, focusing on the language of puppet and object theatre. The curriculum includes both theoretical and practical courses developing skills in working with puppets, objects, body, and voice. Students participate in the creation of original productions and collaborate with professional theatres and artistic institutions. Graduates of this programme are well-prepared for careers in puppet theatres, children’s and youth theatre, or visual theatre. The studies culminate in a master’s thesis and a final graduation performance.
