Carpet diem

author Antoine Zivelonghi
directed by Philipp Boë, Nina Pigné
performers Antoine Zivelonghi, Jean Charmillot

A solo clown act about a single carpet.

Performer, space, and a carpet. In this universe, one can discover the very fundamental principle of puppet theatre. A simple carpet can become the performer’s partner, a living entity with which they engage in dialogue. It can also become an extension of their body. And just as easily, it can transform back into an ordinary, lifeless object. The tension created between the performer and the carpet opens up a space for the audience’s imagination. This performance unfolds with almost no words, as the primary language spoken here is that of movement. Every gesture becomes a small offering to the viewer; every movement, an invitation to reflect.

The name of the Swiss company L’Atelier de l’inventeur is a wordplay combining “invention” and “aventure” (adventure). The ensemble works in a laboratory-like format: experimenting with diverse means of expression, blending improvisation, movement, visual imagery, writing, and object manipulation. Performer and creator Antoine Zivelonghi, together with his team, seeks new forms of expression and pushes the boundaries of his own theatrical language.
